Prepare conversion measurement
Define the conversion, validate attribution and reconcile reports. A practical guide to testing advertising measurement without confusing clicks with accepted outcomes.
Decide what the campaign should achieve before deciding how to count it. A visit, registration, purchase and accepted lead are different events. The supported measurement setup should reflect the outcome your business can verify.
Write down the qualifying event
Specify the action, when it becomes valid and which system is the source of truth. For a lead, that may include acceptance criteria; for a sale, distinguish a checkout event from a confirmed order. Define how duplicates, test events, cancellations and later adjustments will be treated.
Confirm the supported attribution route
Agree the tracking method and identifiers for your channel with the integration team. Use the instructions supplied for your account rather than an assumed pixel or postback URL. Check that redirects preserve the necessary campaign information, without placing personal information in tracking parameters.
Run a recognizable end-to-end test
Follow the intended landing-page and conversion journey with an identifiable test event. Verify that the destination records it, the expected attribution arrives and the same action is not recorded twice. Where consent affects optional measurement, test the relevant choices as part of the actual user journey.
Reconcile equivalent reporting periods
Compare the same timezone, campaign scope and event definition. Allow for documented processing or acceptance delays, and separate preliminary counts from finalized outcomes. A difference between network clicks and analytics sessions is not automatically a conversion error; those systems may observe different stages.
Validate before scaling
If a test cannot be followed through the agreed reporting path, resolve that uncertainty before increasing spend. Record the event reference, expected behavior and timestamps so the team can investigate the specific break in the journey.
